Dec 17, 2009 10:15 AM | ANNOUNCEMENT:
The following is provided to quell any rumours and also keep everyone informed. The VBFFL will continue to have a strong presence locally, regionally , state wide and even nationally. As I have stated on numerous ocassions the only reason I became commisioner was that I was voted in as such in 1989 and continued to assume the role of commissioner for the VBFFL since then to insure we have had a league to play in since Artie Bullman retired in 1988. Also we faced a major obstacle when Va beach Parks and REC increased fees to $750 in 1989 for weeknight play. My primary interest has been to play on a competitive team. I have recently had serious discussions with several coaches in the league and from the NFFL as well. These discussions have been very positive !!!!! For this spring I will be transitioning out of the commissioner role to focus more on the team I play on but will be available to assist in any way I can! 20 years is long enough for primarily volunteer work. I expect several coaches to step up from both leagues and carry the torch for this spring and beyond. Our first order of business is the spring league. We plan to coordinate with the NFFL and Norfolk Parks and Rec. Specifically 1. The season is scheduled to start march 7th and finish by memorial day weekend. 2. We expect to have 2 conferences, a Beach conference and an Eastern conference with intraconference play near the end of the season. 3.each conference will have playoffs and a champion to play in the Intraconference championship with a plaque to be awarded to the winner and available each year. 4. For now it looks like we will have use of the two main fields at Lakewood park. We will also have the availability of the sportsplex again however this will also depend on other major venues and sporting events so as to avoid conflicts. 5.Both leagues have been contacted by " new Teams" to participate 6. Registration deadline will be february 21st, 2010. 7.Frankly I expect to see between 18-20 teams sign up. 8. teams can enter both conferences and play a 2 game a day schedule. 9. rosters will be collected at the first game and at midseason. the VFFA is looking to help us with this with an online approach. more details to come. 10. League fees will be extremely reasonable but details are pending. Hit me up on this board and i`ll try to answer all your questions. Have a safe holiday season and a new year!!!!!!!! | league commissioner

Really don`t have enough time today to comment on some of the previous comments, just trying to get more info out to everyone who is interested.! Here is some additional clarification! 1. Fields at lake wood park have been reserved for both conferences for this spring, and will be available for fall as well. 2. Games will be played on sundays! 3. The season will start on sunday march 14th! and continue untill memorial day weekend. 4. league fees will be $350/ team made payable to the city of norfolk. 5.Teams may enter twice and compete in both conferences 6. The city of Norfolk will use USFFA rules, secure officials through a competitive bidding process, line and maintain the fields, and develop the playing schedules including playoffs. 7. an additional $50 fee will be collected from each team to provide registration fee for the respective conference e champion to go to the state tournament. Any additional funds will be used for awards to those teams. 8. total cost /team is $400! 9. teams will provide their own flags , footballs, tees , jerseys etc. 10. registration is from feb 1st to march 1st 2010. at the admin offices at lakewood park. 11. Unfortunately there have been a few anonymous comments that really haven`t addressed league issues.Highlights are as follows: 1. Spring league fees have been reduced from $475 to $350 2. Intraleague play will be made available on a scheduled basis 3. The Sportplex stadium will not be as available this spring as it was in the fall due to other more major events. 4. we must have a full schedule! Please read the above closely and most if not all your questions will be addressed. if you have a legitimate question leave your name! | CURTIS
